As I watched you working on your Google Slides, I was so impressed with how you helped each other learn new things and that you accepted the help of others. Your actions reminded me of one of my favorite videos, "You can be a hero too". In this video, the theme of "believe in good" is delivered. Thank you so much for demonstrating that same theme in the classroom. You guys are truly heroes to me. As we finish up our first quad of the fall, I wish you good luck on your TABE, in your next class, and everywhere you go. You are all amazing people. It has been an honor being your teacher.

We will be taking the TABE on Thursday, October 6. Students often have questions about the test. Watch this short video for answers.
Before taking a test like TABE, many teachers recommend tips to help you do your best. Read through the tips below. In the comments, share a tip you use to prepare BEFORE the test. For example: I eat a big breakfast the day of the test or I go for a jog before the test to clear my mind. http://www.testtakingtips.com/test/multiple.htm
Your book club project will be to create a Google Slide presentation. You will work on this in class. PLEASE DO NOT START THIS AT HOME AS I WILL HAVE FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. Read through my presentation before Thursday.
Pay special attention to page 4. It outlines what I expect to find in your presentation.
We will soon begin our individual book club projects using Google Slides. (Google Slides is similar to PowerPoint if you have used that before.)
For your homework, I would like for you to watch this eight minute video on how to use Google Slides so you are familiar with it when we start our project. Make sure you are in a WiFi area so you aren't using a lot of your data. *If you are excited after watching the video and can't wait to get started, go to Google Slides and create a short slide show of your family, a hobby, your job, or anything! Email it to me.
The Reading Connection for Unit 5 Vocabulary, page 43 is "Diary of a Pioneer Woman". In this reading, Sarah shares her journey from Missouri to California in a diary. We learn how difficult the journey was for the pioneers. In the video below, we learn more about the covered wagon. The video says, "People had to choose carefully what to bring with them on the trip."
Homework: 1. Read Sarah's diary on page 43 of Unit 5 vocabulary. 2. Watch the 9:04 minute video. 3. Leave a comment sharing one thing you would take today, besides your phone and money, if you were starting a journey that would take many months. We each have a unique or special way of being smart. Sometimes school doesn't tap into your type of intelligence, but it is important for each of us to learn what our intelligence is and how we can make it stronger.
I would like for you to take a quiz to find out which of the intelligences you are the strongest in. To get to the quiz, click on this link below. http://www.edutopia.org/multiple-intelligences-assessment. The quiz will take you 5-10 minutes. After you take the quiz, share your primary intelligence (highest percentage) in the comments. Here's a little more about the eight types of intelligences 1. Verbal Linguistic: you are probably good at speaking or writing. 2. Logical/Mathematical: are you a person who enjoy numbers and solving problems? 3. Visual/Spatial: a person who might read maps with ease or like seeing things in pictures. 4. Musical: you find happiness in making sounds from your voice or an instrument 5. Naturalist: this type of person finds joy working with plants or animals. 6. Bodily/Kinesthetic: Moving your body as you learn or work is best for you. 7. Interpersonal: you might become energized when you spend time with other people. 8. Intrapersonal: more reflective about your own thoughts and feelings Topic: Do you feel comfortable participating in class discussions? Why or why not? What stops you from participating? How do you learn best in a classroom?
Please leave your thoughts and opinions in a comment. You can now use Quizlet as a way to study vocabulary words.
1. Go to Quizlet.com or download the app to your phone. 2. "Search" - kramercathy 3. Click on ABE: Building Vocabulary Unit ____&____. Quizlet is a great way to study vocabulary words for the quiz or to review words we have already covered. |
